McQ Alexander McQueen for Target

There were rumors a few months ago about Target talking to Alexander McQueen about a collection. I was hoping the rumors were true, but didn't hear much after that. It has been confirmed that McQueen will be creating a collection for Target's Designer Collaborations, which is separate from Target's Go International, and will be based off of his secondary line, McQ. Unfortunately, it won't be available until March. I can't wait!

Yesterday, I went to the Jewelry, Fashion & Accessories show. We had never been before and just wanted to see what they had to offer. There really wasn't much that appealed to me. Most of the jewelry was too costume for my taste. There were a few rings that I would've bought had they been bracelets instead. There was quite a bit of fur coats, including this beauty:
Rami Kashou from Project Runway Season 4 was at the show. He had a booth where he was signing autographs and showing off some of his collection. I fell in love with two of his dresses.

Today, Katie and I did one of our favorite things: going to the Marc by Marc Jacobs store. The weather was pretty chilly and left me no choice, but to wear my Uggs. It's about time I get a new pair, seeing as I've had them for three years now and worn them out pretty well.

There were a few MbMJ clothing items I wanted to take home with me (as always), but I didn't buy any of them because I'm planning on getting some Frye Engineer boots within the next few weeks. Katie also happened to point out a pair of pants that I loved. Thanks a lot, Katie! I did purchase two special items, the heart mirror compact and the monocle necklace.

I also ended up falling in love with one of the few Marc Jacobs pieces they had in store: a fur hat. I don't know why, but I am always in love with hats like this. I plan on taking a picture of me wearing it next time we go there. At least I found a stock photo to drool over.

My mom and I spent last Saturday walking around Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue. Our goal was to check out the new Louis Vuitton boutique inside Nordstrom. Of course, we didn't leave empty handed. My mom bought me the one Louis Vuitton that I have been lusting over for over two years, a Damier Speedy 30. She also treated herself to a Monogram Speedy 30. I am becoming a bad influence on her when it comes to handbags. We also went to Barney's to check out their selection of Balenciaga handbags, which my mom says is next on our list. I have no complaints!

I apologize for being MIA lately. I've managed to do a bit of shopping the past few weeks and am slowly preparing myself for fall.

I got this St. John chocolate leather belt for $70.

I stopped by American Apparel to get some much needed basics: white v-neck, black shiney nylon leggings, and two oversized pocket cardigans.

I also bought four new OPI nail polishes, three of which are from the France Collection. It is so hard not to buy the entire France Collection because the colors are so perfect for fall. From left to right: Moon Over Mumbai, Eiffel For This Color, Louvre Me Louvre Me Not, Bastille My Heart.

Target's Three NEW Makeup Collections!

Hey beautiful gals (and guys, I know you're out there!)!!! Shauna and I have been soooo busy with school and work and whatnot! I've decided to double major in Marketing and Accounting (omg so fun, I know!) so I'm focusing on getting top grades!

Well, other than that, I saw on TV that Target had new makeup collections/lines, much like their ongoing GO International Collection in fashion. They had 3 collections introduced lately, two of which I was semi-familiar with before. These are more prestige-cosmetics than their basic makeup lines (more expensive than Sonia Kashuk.)

I just reviewed the products I liked, but some I didn't try out. Most foundations and powders I left out since I am addicted to MAC foundation and powder. I didn't like the redundancy between the lines, because though they are different from line to line, they all have similar products out.

NP Set

The fabulous Aussie MUA, Napoleon Perdis, was on board with this idea and released a line called NP Set. With products similar (but totally different) to his Napoleon Perdis line at Sephora, these products are a little cheaper, but for the most part still have a higher price than MAC.
But, those prices are definitely worth the quality. There is no way he looked at this as a lower-price-lower-quality situation, because these products are fantastic!
NP Set Concealer - I loved this concealer pen, which held one hell of a concealer! Though the light was too fair, the medium matched me perfectly. But, I can only say that this is unfortunate for the girls out there with darker skin, because to most people I am pale.
NP Set Liquid Viel - I loved these highlighters, too. They come in 4 shades, three of them lighter, but one of them bronze. They felt very moisturizing and left a sheer, but gorgeous shimmer. I got one in Houston, which is a light gold color.
NP Set Pre-Foundation Primer - He also has a primer that I found OK, but I don't think it stacks up to, say, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. It didn't have the silkiness that Smashbox does. It also had some shimmer that I found unnecessary for a primer.

NP Set 5-Color Concealer Palette - I bought this and liked the idea, but I was afriad the colors were too dark for me. I'd have to say the only thing I found amazing was the dual-sided concealer brush that came with it. Amazing little things, I swear! Sadly, I will be taking this back as I found another concealer palette in one of the other lines.
NP Set Lip and Eye products - I have to say, I wasn't all that impressed with any lip or eye products. The lipsticks were nice, but not worth $15, in my opinion, but I did like the lip pencil's textures. He has a lip primer, but I felt it only served as a gloss, as the texture was kinda glossy and sticky. The shadows were OK, but nothing I'd spend the money on. Eye liners texture was nice, too, but again, not worth my money.

JK Jemma Kidd

At first glance, I was intrigued by the brightness of the colors, and the payoff seems to definitely match. I had only heard of Jemma Kidd on a makeup-based livejournal community, and I was curious but having no prior knowledge of her or her makeup, I didn't look into her much further. But, after checking out the JK Jemma Kidd collection online, I decided to go check it out in-store. Well worth it!
JK Jemma Kidd Front Cover Touch-Up Concealer - Another good concealer! I liked the applicator for this, too. It's one of those "turrn-and-click for more product" deals with a brush on the end. Nice!

JK Jemma Kidd Stain/Flush/Blush Makeup Concentrate - I liked these cream blushes, but I didn't get them. They sure pack a punch in a little palette.

JK Jemma Kidd I-Tech Liquid Liner Collection - OMG. I love these. I got Drama, the purple, and the teal one, called Covert(though the box said "covet"). They last forever! I put them on my hand at about 1 pm, and kept them on til midnight, and I had washed my hands 3 times throughout the night! I even used my facial cleanser on them, and they didn't budge! They were even as shiny and bright as could be! There is only one MINOR downside... They are a litttttle sticky. And I mean a tiny bit.

JK Jemma Kidd I-Design Eye Color - I swatched these on my hand and found them to have good color payoff, but I didn't buy them. They all had the same shimmer, and were kind of bland. Almost like pure micas. For a plain color, these are great, but I didn't need to spend $18 on them.
JK Jemma Kidd Air Kiss Shine Lip Gloss - I got this in Poser, which I LOVE. It reminds me a little of MAC's Style Minx from the Fafi collection. The feel is actually true to the name, it does feel quite airy. It smells a little like the citric salt that came in a little salt container with a duck on it that I bought from a Hispanic food mart when I was little. Some of you might know what I'm talking about, some might not. I'd say this is a little less glossy than some glosses, and more tint-y. I like it, though, and I'm happy with it.
JK Jemma Kidd Lip ID Color-Adapt Lip Gloss - I found this to be not as affective as the other "color changing" glosses, like that of Smashbox's O-Gloss. It was clear before I put it on, and then it kinda-sorta changed into a pinky mauve. Not enough of a change to get me to buy it.

Pixi

I was unaware of this makeup artist, Petra Strand, but I am in love with most of her line. There is such innovation and quality in this line, and I'm glad I found out about it. Pixi is a line with many compacts that are truly compact, and products that really deliver.

Pixi Illuminating Tint and Conceal - This concealer/foundation combo is very convienient. It has a tube of foundation, and on the cap has a little "knob" of concealer. The concealer was pretty good, but I thought the winner in this combination was the foundation. It went on so smooth and silky, and gave decent coverage for a "tint" of color.

Pixi Eye Beauty Kit - Neutralizing Cover-Up - I bought this after getting the NP Set concealer palette. The first Target I went to didn't have these "beauty kits" but the second one did. It has 7 creams, ranging from a green toned concealer to a white highlighter. It also has a little translucent setting powder! It comes with a dual sided brush, but I didn't like it as much as the NP Set palette's.

Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel - I liked this product because it doesn't lie, it is sheer. But, there was another stain that did double duty, so I got that instead.

Pixi Water Blush - This stain is great! It is unscented, liquid, and does the job. And it doesn't leave color on the skin after you remove it, which is nice. I got it in Rose Stain, and used it on my lips with just some chapstick over. It is great for those nights (or days) when you'll be running around but don't want to have to keep reapplying lipstick. Put some of this on your lips, top with chapstick and a little gloss, and you're done! It can also be layered under lipstick for a more vibrant look.

Pixi Lid and Line - I liked the functionality of this, it's a liner and an eyeshadow in one! But, I found it too glittery (esp. the liner) and just too muted for my liking. But if you are constantly on-the-go and need a quick-fix, this is for you!

Pixi Eye Beauty Kit - As you read I have the neutralizing/concealing palette, but when I saw these colors, I fell in love! It has 8 gorgeous dark colors with GREAT payoff. Definitely a good buy.

Pixi Smokey Eye Wand - This little eye wand is creative! It is a soft sponge that when twisted in the cap gets a gorgeous black-silver on it, and it smudges nicely! Another great idea for the girls on-the-go!

Pixi Lustrous Eye Primer - I liked this eye primer's texture and silkiness, but I don't necessarily think it stayed put as well as I'd like. I say for the price, not worth it. Get Urban Decay Primer Potion instead!

Pixi Lip Blush - I took two for the team on this one. Since there is no way I'd get any color on my lips by using a q-tip or my finger, I actually used the testers. Luckily this is a new collection and they looked hardly used. Also, I put two different colors on my lips. Youth, the light pink, on my top lip, and Purity, the mauvey nude, on my bottom. Talk about for the love of journalism. The light pink only gave me a tiny bit of color, and the nude just deepened my natural lip color, but the other two shades, a bright pink and a coral-y orange, looked promising. I say if you wear those colors enough and you're considering these, buy them.

Pixi Lip Treat/Silk/Booster - I found these OK, but not essential by any means. The Silk and Booster were normal glosses to me, and though I liked the idea of the Lip Treats, they didn't perform like I'd hoped. Oh well, less money I spent.

All in all, I found these three lines to be worth the money for the most part, but redundant. I don't think the redundancy should keep anyone from trying anything (why would it, just more options) but sometimes it can get annoying when you're stuck between 2 similar products.

Mom's Jackets

Last week, Katie invited me to an 80s party. I honestly had no idea what to wear. Leggings and a skirt were the only things I could think of wearing, which was fine, but I had no top to wear. Luckily, my mom came home at the right time and pulled out one of her jackets from the 80s. It was perfect.

The next day, my mom was asking if anyone said anything about my jacket (which received many compliments) and let me know that she has another jacket hiding somewhere. She went off to find it, returning a few minutes later with another beauty. I was not at all surprised that my mom had purchased this jacket because it fits her personality perfectly.

I think the best part about the jackets is that they are hand painted. Here are some details of the white jacket.

Fall Beauty Trends

This Fall is all about the dark lip. There is a myriad of shades in red, purple, and even brown. And this Fall, pairing these berry colors with a smokey-eye is OK, if you don't over do it. Dolce & Gabbana's Fall/Winter ads show this look... A pale face, dark cranberry or mulberry lip, and a smokey eye that doesn't overpower the face.

I'll admit to being a MAC whore... Most of my stuff is MAC, and for good reason! In my honest opinion, they have some of the best formulas for a decent price. Now, I say decent because some lines out there are just insane, but they do have steeper prices than drugstore brands.

MAC's newest line is called Cult of Cherry, and the colors truly reflect a cherry. Deep, dark, rich, and dare I say juicy. I picked up a lipstick in So Scarlet, two Mattene lipsticks in Rapturous and Bing, and a lipglass in Cult of Cherry. I also picked up an eyeshadow quad in Tempting, but it was mostly because of the INSANE chartreuse color. The lipsticks and lipglasses are $14, the Mattenes are $14.50, and the quads are $36. But, MAC is not the only brand on the dark lip kick.

Urban Decay just came out with a new collection of lipsticks, and though most are not dark, the most popular color out of all of them has been Apocalypse, which is a deep blackberry color. And these have some CUTE packaging. Though it won't stand up on the counter like most lipsticks, the bottom of the purple metal lipstick is a dagger, and it is even etched onto the lipstick itself with the brand name below. These lipsticks are $22.

And with dark or red lipstick, always remember to line those lips! Nothing is more unattractive than smudgey or feathered lips.

Stains and tints are a great idea too, and very popular this Fall. Going along with the dark colors, many cosmetic companies have colors that are stains or tints, which is a better approach for someone who isn't ready to take the plunge into a full on lip color.

The God of all things makeup, Kevyn Aucoin (RIP), has a collection of lipsticks called The Expert Lip Tint. These are pigment-rich and moisturizing. This collection has a deep burgundy red called Bloodroses that looks GORGEOUS! These lipsticks are $23.

Another brand I adore is NARS, and if Orgasm is your go-to blush, you might need to add another NARS product to your bag! NARS Lip Gloss/ Lip Stain Duo takes a gorgeous dark stain and pairs it with a perfect gloss. Apply the stain to the center of your lip and put the gloss all over the lip for a toned-down dark lip. For $28 you basically get 2 lip products!

Project Runway Season 5: Katie's Opinions

OK, so my opinions on this season are different than Shauna's. Some outfits she liked and I did too, some were exactly the same, and some I totally disagree with. (Sorry in advance, Shauna, lol.) My favorites so far are Kenley (though she has become kinda bitchy) and Keith. I love that Blayne is a total nutter, and I have a soft spot in my heart for Daniel, though he is TOTALLY slipping up.

Episode 1:

I loved the idea of this challenge for... about 30 seconds. Then I hated it and thought it was so stupid. OF COURSE they'll go for the fucking tablecloths, I mean most people would think of that first because America is LAZY. I liked Daniel's the most, but liked the originality of Kelli. The bottom was adorable but I hated the top. And I loved Wesley's, too.

Episode 2:

Cute idea, but who the fuck would let the models choose the fabric? In what world does the designer just say, "Hey, btw, go get the fabric, Sweetie..." I'm pretty sure the designer would get the fabric whether or not the look was almost totally the client's idea. I mean if a client came to me with a fabric, I'd be like, "BB, I'm going to get something similar, but not so trashy, and definitely not as low grade." I loved Kenley's and Emily's if it was longer. Blayne's was cute, too. But the producers are whacked if they think models know fabric.

Episode 3:
The idea was OK, but more and more I'm thinking the producers are without ideas and just make them up as they're walking to work. Kenley's was adorable, Leanne's was pretty nice, and I loved the use of color on Blayne's.

Episode 4:

This is the challenge I was waiting for. And OK, yeah, they're exactly the same as Shauna's... But great minds think alike, right? Kenley and Leanne's were cute, but Keith's was amazing. Like, forget the Olympics, put that shit on for everyday wear. But what judges or producers were on crack that voted Korto's as the winner? I'm sorry but the bitch is insane and that vest looked like crap. IMO, bbs.

Episode 5:
Another solid, TV-worthy idea... Brooke Shields is hot, and this was a great challenge. Though I don't like Jerell or Stella, at all, I loved this look. It was a good pairing and a cute oufit. Keith is hot, IDC who disagrees, and I loved this look and the versatility of the top. And though Blayne and Leanne's look wasn't transitional to evening wear, I thought it was cute and looked like something DSquared2 would design. And, though Shauna disagrees, I HATED Kelli's outfit. It looked like something you would get at Discovery Clothing (for those who don't know, its a discount clothing store that sells cheap clothing good for one night out, and the trashiest working wear known to mankind.) The silouette was bad, the fabric matching was bad, and it looked like something costing $19.99. And judging by what Kelli wore to the runway that day, it looks like she shops at Discovery, too. I'm glad she's gone, cause now they can bring class back.

I've been living in these shoes lately and I don't know why. Maybe it's because summer is coming to an end and I don't want to let it go. Maybe it's because I love flip flops in the summer and these are a nice change. I've also been trying to wear this headband. I bought it a few months ago and have neglected it ever since.

This next outfit I wore last night to get dinner with my parents. It was kind of chilly outside for a summer night. I've been pretty sick the past few days, so keeping it casual was a must for last night.

Project Runway Season 5

These are my favorite three looks from each episode so far. Based on my favorite looks, it would appear that my favorite designers from this season would be Kenley and Kelli. Sadly, Kelli was voted off last episode, but at least I have Kenley. Other designers I appear to be liking are Blayne, Suede, and Keith.

Episode 1:
Who didn't love Kelli's marbleized skirt? The moment I saw it, I was ready to buy it. As for Daniel's dress, well, could you imagine a dress made out of plastic cups? I would have never thought of that.

Episode 2:
It's the little details I love about the pieces from this episode. Blayne's off-the-shoulder on one side, Suede's woven/cut out look, and Kenley's oversized collar.

Episode 3:
This has been my favorite episode so far. Obviously I was drawn to Blayne's dress because of the bright colors. As for Kenley and Kelli's outfits, I would wear them both.

Episode 4:
These outfits are simple and wearable, though a bit too much white for my tastes. The collars and skirts are my favorite parts.

Episode 5:
I thought this episode was ok. I was glad Keith won. I loved the convertible sleeves. While I like the other outfits I posted, I didn't think they were anything too special. I am still sad that Kelli was sent home.

Try It Before You Buy It!

OK, so there is a catch... you do have to spend money... but when it comes to finding out your specific wants and needs, these miniature try-me's give you a taste of the product without commitment to a whole tube.

Sephora's 'The Lash Stash' is a kit of Sephora's 7 best-selling mascaras. It includes: Benefit A Little Bit BADgal Lash in Black, Blinc Kiss Me Mascara in Black, LORAC Publicity Stunt Lashes in Black, Smashbox Bionic Mascara in Black, Stila Multi-Effect Mascara in Black, Sephora Brand Lash Plumper in Black, and Too Faced Lash Injection in Black.
I love BADgal lash, and the Sephora brand plumper is OK, but I want to try Blinc Kiss Me. I have heard amazing things about it covering each lash in a latex coating that pops right off in little tubes with a little water and pressure. (OBV if you have latex allergies, this isn't a good mascara for you.)

Travel-sized cosmetics are also good try-before-you-buys. They give you the option of trying more than one kind of a product before spending the big bills on something you might not even like. Or they can allow you to try one product for specific needs...

Smashbox Primer To Go comes in the original, Light, SPF 15 With Dermaxyl, Color Correcting Color Adjust (Green), Color Correcting Color Blend (Apricot), and Bronzing. These are great primers, and fit almost every need.
If you have redness, the Color Adjust with tone out the red and leave you with an even, neutral tone. Sometimes the Original can be too greasy for people that have oily skin, but the Light goes on smooth without making you look like you stuck your face in a pan of oil.

Other try-me or travel-sized cosmetics worth trying: Cargo DailyGloss, Cargo ColorCards, Cargo Eye Shimmer Collection, Cargo GlossBox, TheBalm Pick-Up Liners, DuWop Mini Venom Trio.

Please forgive me for the quality of the photos. My boyfriend was supposed to be home earlier to use his awesome camera, but got stuck at work, leaving me with my very old point-and-shoot.

These sunglasses are my dad's from the 80s. I was so excited when he brought them out, and even more so when he said I could have them. The best part is that they get rid of my craving for new sunglasses.

My goal is to obtain at least half of my posted fall wishlist (the rest can be found two posts below) and all necessary basics (v-necks, cardigans, etc.) this fall. The thing that gets me is sales. I am a sucker for sale shopping and it prevents me from saving money for the upcoming seasons.

My mom has promised that we each get a Louis Vuitton bag this year and I might be able to talk her into it sooner than I thought because of the upcoming price increase, which I believe is August 19th. I'd like to give my Chanel a break, but when it comes to handbags, I won't settle for just anything. Even if I like a bag, I won't spend money unless I LOVE it. And when I find a bag I love, price doesn't matter. I will save to get what I love.

Those Givenchy shoes have been driving me crazy. First I love them, then I hate them, then I love them again. I've been planning outfits to wear with them and it's only making me fall in love even more. I'm loving the Vivienne Westwood necklace because of the colors (I'm a sucker for anything orange). As for the two blouses, yellow and purple are two of my favorite colors for fall, and the ruffle details make me drool.

Shoes or Lose 2008

Shoes this season are all about creativity and innovation. Heels are sculptures, looking like flowers, jewels, and some even studded. Lace-up boots and shoes are also popular, whether it is accompanied by a heel or not. Detail is the key, and the crazier, the better!

Shauna's Fall Wishlist

I assure you that this is a very, very small portion of my fall wishlist. I find myself craving mainly shoes, which is understandable considering that I've been lacking in shoe purchases. Skirts are also climbing my list for fall. Maybe it's because I have enough pairs of pants or maybe it's because I only have two skirts.

As for the rest of my not pictured wishlist: cardigans, tights in a variety of colors, grey nail polish, a leather jacket, shiny nylon leggings from American Apparel, v-necks, knee-high socks, and a blazer, though I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Necklace Detail

As you may know by now, I am attracted to bright colors. I found this top in a boutique while on vacation in North Carolina. I was immediately drawn to it and my favorite part are the cut-outs on the sleeves. I found the necklace in a random store in L.A. about six or seven years ago. I didn't buy it, which I quickly regretted. Surprisingly, my grandma had my aunt purchase it as a present for me. It even comes with a key, also decorated with rhinestones.

As for the shoes, they aren't pictured because we were inside and took this last minute, though they really aren't that important. I wore Teva flip flops. They weren't the ideal shoes I wanted to wear, but I always seem to wear flip flops when it's raining.

I loved everything about this show, from the hair and makeup to the accessories and headpieces. Lacroix is never one to disappoint me or hold back on details and the middle photo is my favorite look from Fall 2008 Couture.

While Christian Lacroix is my favorite, I also enjoyed Dior, Givenchy, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Katie's FALL 2008 RTW Review A - L

So, these are the collections, A through L, that I really liked and wanted to talk about. Below these are other collections I liked but either didn't have time/was too lazy to put pictures up, and below that is a list of collections I did not like and why. This is only half of it... Expect more within the next couple days...

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen is never one to disappoint, and this collection is no exception. The immediate vibe is very witchy- there is almost a feeling of Sleepy Hollow throughout the first set. There are tattered dresses with asymmetrical shapes, and the hair carries the same feel as it also looks tattered and disheveled (which, as the first thing I see, I honestly did not care for). The collection then turns to a certain regality through the end. These pieces have a high society India feel, consisting of velvets and layered feather dresses with full skirts, and silks with intricate bead work. Needless to say, he has certainly outdone himself again.

Anna Sui

Anna Sui's collection is truly unique. She has veered a little off her punk-rock path and though keeping with the boldness she is known for, she took a different route. She drew from many inspirations in this collection... the pieces are a bit of Native American, a bit of Victorian, and a bit Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. Bright, bold colors in eccentric patterns are seen, intertwined with darker pieces, but all very much incorporating all three influences. What will be next in Anna Sui's upcoming collections?

Christian Dior

At first glance, I thought I would hate this collection. I'm not one for Jackie O glamour, and that is exactly what this screams. But, the more I see, the more I love. I find the collection to be fun and humorous, in a 1960's wine-guzzling-Texas-mother sort of way. The hair is huge, and the lashes and makeup are over sized to match. Bright fun colors and bubble skirts, nostalgic prints and shapes... it all brings back a memory to those who were fortunate enough to live in that era. (Though I did not, I wish I had!). John Galliano will always find a way to shock you, and this is proof.

Etro

There is something so innovative about the line that makes me wonder why it is so overlooked. I always feel like the designs are so well put together. They are an oxymoron in a way, because they are so perfectly flawed... Everything works in a way that doesn't work. It's refreshing, and I just love it.

Givenchy

This collection reminds me of the weird girl at school that no one talked to, not because she was weird, but because she was crazy. The one that if you looked at her wrong, she would probably stab you. She had an older boyfriend that rode a motorcycle, and would pick her up half way through school... but even though she was crazy and weird, you still kinda wanted to be her, because she just didn't give a fuck. It's like Catholic School 'goth', but in the old sense of the word.

Karl Lagerfeld

Now I'm not a huge fan of Chanel, and I could do without most... BUT... I like Karl Lagerfeld. I feel this line, though in a way similar to Chanel, is much more laid back, and I like that about these designs. I mean I love Karl for the great designer he is, and some Chanel items I really adore, but the collection as a whole isn't as great as this one (just my opinion). I like clean lines, solid fabrics, the chic-ness of this line. Chanel, I feel, is too dainty for me. Yes, some of this collection looks redundant, but you have to look at the details. The stitch, the pleat, the shape... It really is all different. And I love that about Karl, it's not for one woman, it's for all women.

Other Collections worth remembering: Christian Lacroix - I liked just about everything. Hair, makeup, jackets, dresses, PRINTS... just great.
Dsquared2 - Dean and Dan, my loves. They make something old, new... and it just works.
Elie Saab - Oh, my wedding dress WILL be an Elie Saab piece (but from his couture line, of course!)... He makes the most beautiful dresses!

J. Mendel - Wouldn't say I LOOOVED it, but there were a few pieces I really liked. Sheer lacy numbers and the bow-loop looking pockets were nice.

Lanvin - I can't put my finger on it, but there is something I like about this collection...

Not Impressed with (and my reasons why): Derek Lam - I feel like he lost the female body in these pieces, and he usually knows the female body so well... And, I didn't see a cohesive collection, but rather bits and pieces strung together in no particular fashion. Disappointing as he is a favorite of mine.
Balenciaga - Seen it before. We get it, you do shapes, it's your thing. Strong shoulders and hips... Something new, please?

Dolce & Gabbana - France? Oklahoma? Prague? I just don't get it. It's a mish mash of confusion for me, but I'm never impressed by Dolce & Gabbana.
Junya Watanabe - Another designer I enjoy, usually. I feel like he took his idea too far, and it just got redundant. We'll see next time.

Katie's Summer Bag Must-Haves!

Except for the basic bag essentials like my phone, keys, and wallet, there are a few things that I find necessary for the summer.
1. Marc by Marc Jacobs - Totally Turn-lock Quinn in Mouse Gray. I need a big bag, and this is definitely big enough for all of my crap!
2. Summer Hat - Pink hat I got from BP. in Nordstrom. It was $14.99 or so and I got it in Royal Blue also. Can't find the blue one, though... I think a hat in the summer is ESSENTIAL. Being a cosmetologist, although I want my hair to look perfect at all times, I want my hair to stay healthy and one way is to wear a hat to somewhat protect it from the sun. I have a ton of hats.
3. Sunnies - Protect those eyes from the damaging sun rays! I got these at For Love 21, the Forever 21 accessories store.
4. M.A.C. Charged Water - OMG. It gets so ridiculously hot out, so best way to stay cool is to spritz yourself. Keep this in the fridge overnight and take before you leave the house. When you're hot and need a temporary cool-down, SPRAY! If at the beach with a cooler - pop it in the ice and spray when needed. Because lets be honest, we don't always go for the water... ;)
5. Daisy by Marc Jacobs - I love the fresh floral scent of this, and your man will too. The heat will make it linger!
6. Headband - If you're anything like me, and human, you get hot in the summer sun. I use a headband to push my hair back when its just too unbearable to wear down. This one has elastic laced through to help it hold better.
7. M.A.C. Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks - The glitter in this gloss will set that pout aflame and cause those lips to look plump!
8. M.A.C. Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Fresh Green Mix - This duo is fun and perfect for summer, and what's better than getting 2 great colors in one easy to carry compact?
9. M.A.C. Strobe Cream - I love shimmery skin, and this face cream gives you that, without looking greasy or like you fell into a pool of glitter.
10. Sephora Express Smily Lips - I love this lip conditioner that I got in Barcelona, but unfortunately they only have it in European Sephora stores. It moisturizes and leaves the lips sooo soft. If you're in the US like us, I suggest Burt's Bee's Beeswax Lip Balm.
11. Visine Eye Drops - If you get red itchy eyes or your eyes water a lot (or are very dry), Visine makes so many different formulas that work and leave eyes feeling like new.
12. Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara - I have a ton of lashes that are already really curly (I know, why should I complain?) but they are so short and light that it doesn't even matter, so I use this mascara to plump them and make them more noticeable.
13. Arizona Lemonade - Summer = Lemonade, in my opinion, so I loooove Arizona's Lemonade. There is NOTHING better than the taste of fresh squeeze lemonade on a hot day, but when I don't have lemons handy (which is always, haha) I grab a can of this to quench my thirst. But, there is still is nothing that beats the fresh squeezed stuff, especially from state fairs! Yummmm!

Polish Your Look!

I love the look of perfectly polished nails, and this summer, neon and bright colors are in. A lot of companies have a bright collection out now, like OPI's Mod About Brights. These 6 bright colors are fun, but not too bright that they'll burn your retinas. They retail for about $8 at most Ulta's and other salon retail stores.

Another great collection is The Neon Collection by Essie. This collection has 4 great neon shades that will add a great summer punch to any outfit. These colors retail for $8/each or $18 for a pack of 4 mini polishes and can be found here!

One more great collection out is China Glaze's Ink. This collection of 12 bright colors has every color imaginable, making it easy to find a perfect color for whatever outfit you are wearing. They retail for $3.75 at Sally Beauty with their discount card (And, if you don't have one, get one! I promise it's worth it).

Looking into the fall, a color that is subtle but chic, is Grey. Many companies have great greys out there, and it is a must-have for fall! I personally think the perfect grey is China Glaze's Recycle. This matte grey is perfect, and inexpensive!

Summer Bags

Another fun way to spruce up a basic summer outfit is to add a fabulous handbag. While I love colorful bags year round, I also feel they are easier to wear during the summer. Here are some of my favorite bags for summer.

Summertime

The thing I love most about summer fashion is the colors. In my opinion, the brighter, the better. When it's hot outside, most people will resort to shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. It's understandable to want to just throw something on and get out to enjoy the summer days. However, putting on shorts and a t-shirt everyday can get boring real fast. Adding some colorful basics can completely change an outfit. Here are four of my summer favorites from American Apparel.

1. The Unisex Big Tank
Coming in a variety of colors, including fluorescent orange (shown) and fluorescent green, this tank is perfect for summer. It can be worn over a bathing suit when you're going to the beach or the pool, over your favorite pair of shorts, with a pair of leggings or tights if it's long enough on you, or even a pair of pants if it's a cooler summer day. For a different look, add a belt. While it only comes in one size, a second tank top or t-shirt worn underneath might be necessary (I suggest it be another color instead of opting for black or white).

2. Unisex Nylon Spandex Micro-Mesh T-Shirt
Another great choice for a hot summer day spent at the beach. The see-through mesh will feel light and allow you to feel the breeze. Perfect over a swimsuit, this shirt can be worn with shorts or skirts. While it only comes in four colors (fluorescent pink [top layer], pop purple [bottom layer], frost blue, and black), it's still a fun summer option to the basic t-shirt. Wear two at a time (as shown) to give yourself more color options or wear over your regular shirts and tank tops.

3. Unisex Solid Rib Vest
One of the easiest ways to spruce up an outfit is by adding a vest. If you're not big into color, this is the perfect way to add just a touch. This vest can be worn over plain, patterned, or printed shirts and tanks. Buttoned or unbuttoned, it will still add a nice pop of color and for more options, add a belt.

4. Polyester Micro-Fiber Tulip Skirt
The last item on my listen from American Apparel and my favorite. While shorts are comfortable, they can get boring after a while. Maybe it's just me, but when it's really hot out, i don't want denim wrapping around my legs. To me, summer is a time to feel girly. When I think of summer, I think of skirts and dresses. I think that some people avoid them for fear of being too dressy. While I love to get all fancy every once in a while, I love a casual look when wearing skirts. This skirt can be worn with all the basics: t-shirts, tank tops, even a leotard (which American Apparel also sells). To change the look a bit, add a pair of tights, leggings, or knee high socks.

The best way to figure out what colors work well together is to go to your nearest American Apparel and either try them on together or hold them up next to each other. You'd be surprised at what color combinations you never thought about trying. Next time, instead of reaching for that white t-shirt, opt for that green or purple one.
